Kayaking Lessons in the Comox Valley

The Basics

The Basics is a 2-hour introduction to kayaking designed for those who have never kayaked before.  Emphasis is placed on getting out on the water and learning the basic strokes and increasing your comfort level in a kayak.   Folks interested in a more comprehensive lesson might wish to take our Paddle Canada Introduction to Kayaking instead.

What You'll Learn

Paddling Skills

  • Lifting and carrying a kayak
  • Entering and exiting a kayak from shore
  • Forward and reverse paddling
  • Forward and reverse sweep strokes (turning)
  • Stopping

Knowledge

  • Parts of a kayak
  • Safety equipment
  • Clothing for paddlers
  • Injury prevention

What to bring

  • Synthetic clothing (no cotton, no denim please)
  • Water shoes (any shoes that can get wet & will stay on your feet)
  • Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen
  • Hat
  • Bottle of water
  • Snack
